Perhaps it would have been better had Anna Karenina come down with the flu...
Given that Ms. Lutz is ill, and that some readers are not quite at the end of the novel, we have delayed Russian New Year's until Saturday, January 19. Still 11-2, still at Dr. Brintlinger's house, but with any luck Ms. Lutz will have recovered and will join us.
The plan is to 1) experience traditional Russian food; 2) help to prepare some of that food (and in the process contemplate just how handy it would be to have many serfs in the kitchen to do the chopping!); 3) talk about the novel, ask questions, argue, draw conclusions, etc. etc.
I will have on hand one or more relevant films to play in the background, plus some fabulous Russian cookbooks (in both English and Russian) to peruse.
PLUS there are several prizes. Bring a trivia question, and I will come up with some, and we'll see who wins the prizes.
See you there (here) next Saturday.
